CardSwaps World Cardmaking Day Blog Hop!

Hello and Welcome!

You are on the CardSwaps World Cardmaking Day Blog Hop!
You should have arrived here from Faith Skrdla (Designed 2 Delight) -
http://designed2delight.blogspot.com/2010/09/cardswap-blog-hop.html.
If you got here differently, make sure you start at the beginning and work your way around.

Comment on every blog by midnight CST, October 3, 2010, to be entered into a drawing for prizes. The full list of prizes are on Lora's blog.

For my part in the Blog Hop I was assigned an Individual Challenge. The Individual Challenge I was assigned is: Recipe Challenge - Create a card using the following items: 4 brads, 3 flowers, 2 patterned papers, 1 image. (Okay, I'm going to give everyone a good chuckle here. Being relatively new to cardmaking and challenges I had to ask Lora what the "recipe" part of my challenge meant. Did it mean I had to actually put a recipe on or in the card? Eek, do I have a recipe that will fit on a greeting card? Well, she apologized for having a laugh at my question, but I have to admit, once I read her reply I had a good giggle too! Those who understood the "recipe", go ahead & giggle, but for those who may not have - it simply meant I was given the specific ingredients, the "recipe" to use (i.e. the specifics of: 4 brads, 3 flowers, 2 patterned papers, 1 image). Now you know why I had a laugh at my own self too!

And, here is my completed challenge card. This is the front view of the card while
it is closed. The four flowers in the corners are the four brads of my recipe. These
are not the 3 flowers the recipe required, but because I had no luck in my search
for bumblebee brads I had to settle for flower brads.

And when the card opens it opens almost in an accordion manner. Here is the front view as it is being opened. In this view you see the 1 stamped image and the 2 printed paper the recipe called for.

And this is the inside of the card as it is being opened. Here you see the 3 flowers the recipe said use. They are a little surprise waiting for you to find them when you open the card.

For this project I used:   AC Textured White cardstock, Making Memories Pastel Mini Flower Brads, Copic markers, Creative Memories "Delight" patterned paper, Fresh Print Clothesline "Purple Pansy" patterned paper,Color Me Crazy flowers from Petaloo and the image is "End of Summer" by Mo Manning of Stampavie.

This techniques is one I found in "Fast and Fun Folded Cards by  Annie's Attic. page 22 on a card titled Welcome Neighbor. The directions say to make this card you cut a 6 -1/4 x 5-1/2 piece of cardstock. Score according to the dotted lines and cut according to the solid lines of the template provided in the back of the book (shown below), but I modified the dimension a little to be sure my finished card fit an A2 envelope so that I could include it in my Operation Write Home shipment. You then cut printed paper to attach to the front sections as it is laid flat and attach the image you want on the inside of the finished card. Then turn the card over to attach the image that will appear on the front when the card is closed.

I have only been making cards for a few months, but I have really enjoyed it. My cardmaking started with an interest in Copic markers. Well, actually, it started with scrapbooking, something I dabbled in several years ago but had pushed aside because of the time my job required of me. I had the opportunity to retire about a year & a half ago and slowly started pulling my scrapbooking stuff back out. Because I had not worked on it for several years I felt I needed to visit my LSS and see what was new. What I found was handmade cards that had stamped images colored with Copic markers. I admired the different cards and Copic colored images for several visits to that LSS and when I saw a Beginners Copic class scheduled to be taught there, I signed myself up. The class was taught by Christine Ousley, and she did a wonderful job. I was hooked. Hooked on coloring stamped images with Copic that is. But I couldn't just color those images and stuff them in a drawer! I like them too much to do that to them. And so, the only logical choice was to make cards to put them on. Since then I have discovered I really enjoy making cards, with or without a Copic colored stamped image.

Initially I made a handful of cards for some birthdays and such, but more recently I found a very worthwhile avenue for my cardmaking. I have adopted a project that allows me to make and make and make cards. I am now in the process of making cards for Operation Write Home (OWH). Operation Write Home's Mission is to support our nation’s armed forces by sending blank greeting cards to deployed troops for them to write home on, as well as sending cards of gratitude to encourage the troops. My part is simple, I make A2 size cards and send them to a shipper who will process them and ship them out to the troops. For me, this is a heart-warming & rewarding project to be part of.

Okay, enough about me, back to the Blog Hop stuff.

You have until midnight, CST, October 3, 2010, to post your comment on each blog on the hop. Everyone that comments on each blog will be entered into the drawings for blog hop prizes. In addition, if you want to participate in the challenges for the mini crop at Card Swaps, go check it out after the blog hop and upload your completed project by midnight CST, October 3, 2010,  in order to get in the drawings for prizes!

That said, your next stop on this Blog Hop is:
